Tournament Rules


UTM BIG SHOW TOURNAMENT RULES

UTM Fastpitch reserves the right to adjust the event rules at any time to accommodate unusual circumstances

Standard Rules for all UTM Tournaments are as follows:

  • Coin Flip for Home/Away
  • U13 Team must bat their available roster 
  • U15 Teams have choice to bat roster, or play with 9/DP/Flex
  • Pinch Runner Allowed for the Pitcher & Catcher with 2 out (last available)
  • All games are No New Inning after 1:20
  • If the home team is ahead at 1:20 then the game is considered over.
  • There is a drop dead time rule at 1:30 for this event. At the time of the drop dead the last complete inning is the official score.
  • A tie is a suitable outcome for all games Friday and Saturday
  • Call-Ups Allowed, must clear player with PWSA coordinator & UTM Fastpitch
  • A win is worth 3 points, a tie worth 1 point in the standings tracker
  • If a player is late, they can be added to the bottom of the line-up AT ANY TIME
  • If a player becomes injured/sick, and then feels better, they can rejoin in their original spot in the batting order without penalty
  • Live Streaming of games, must be cleared by the umpires and both teams prior to the start of the game
  • In the event of weather issues a complete game is considered to be such after 3 full innings, or 2.5 innings if the home team is ahead
  • All teams should be expected to be ready to play 15 minutes before their scheduled time slot
  • All the above apply to ALL games including medal games

Mercy Rules:

  • There is a 5-run cap on innings 1-2-3-4
  • There is a 7-run cap on innings 5-6-7
  • Mercy run differential is 15 runs after 3 innings, 10 runs after 5 innings

Playoff Tie-Breaker (In-game)

  • If the game is tied, and time has expired then the following tie-breaker inning special rules will apply
    • Each team starts with a runner on 2nd base & 3rd base, and there is one-out
    • Max runs that can be scored in a tie-breaker inning is 4 runs
    • If the game is tied follow the same process until the tie is broken

Tie-Breakers Pool Standings

  • Head to Head (2 teams)
    • Most Wins
    • Least Runs Against (no-cap)
    • Best Run Differential (capped at max of +/- 7 per game)
    • Overall Runs Scored (no cap)
    • Coin Flip
  • 3 or more teams (no head to head games count, unless all tie-teams have played each other)
    • Most Wins
    • Least Runs Against (no cap)
    • Best Run Differential (capped at max of +/- 7 per game)
    • Overall Runs Scored (no cap)
    • Coin Flip

 Ejections: 

  • Should a player, coach, or parent receive a game ejection by the umpire or UIC they will automatically be suspended for 2 additional games regardless of when it happens.
  • A second objection, will result in coach being banned from future 2025 UTM events
  • Should a fan be thrown out of a game, that fan is banned for the balance of the weekend (no exceptions)
