Here are the UTM Rawlings Power Rankings for July 9th. Sorry for the 2 week hiatus, we got super busy with our own host tournaments, planning, some travelling and vacation time all rolled into what amounted to a busy two week period.
U19 Tier 1
Well, this is the week of the National Qualifier. Four spots up for grabs this weekend in Windsor. No change to the upper part of our Top-10 list, we acknowledge that we haven’t seen Windsor in action, and will finally this week. We have made some slight adjustments to the bottom part of the Top-10 as there have been some late roster additions and deletions that slightly change our opinion on some teams heading into this weekend. We will have a separate article this week on some predictions for the coming weekend.
U19 Tier 2
We will change the #1 team this week, and give the slot now to Waterloo Ghosts Black. Funny thing is, with the tough draw the new #1 has at qualifers it is possible that if the chips fall where they may, our pick may not even make the “A” pool. We however feel those chances are slight. We also bump Kitchener up a spot, this senior team will be a tough out for anyone. Springfield now sits at #3, the Gators by virtue of a tournament win this past weekend jump to #4 showing us they can pitch, play defense and hit when they need to get it done. The Yankees slide in at #5, solid pitching and hitting will carry this team.
U16 Tier 1
Wow, what a competitive group. Weekend after weekend these teams have competed hard. It is possible that a team we don’t even have ranked in the first ten, could really jump up and bite someone this weekend in Windsor. It may not be enough of a bite to earn themselves a bid but it will likely take away a bid from someone that expects to get one. Hold on to your hats!!!! This weekend is going to be special. We have Vaughan as the #1. We will have another article mid-week with some NQ predictions.
U16 Tier 2
We saw first-hand some of the best Bantam II teams this weekend at the UTM Rock the Park tourney. With this info and observations along with the results from the past few weeks we have modified our top-10 teams a fair bit. No change at the top, Angels won the RTP tourney to stay #1. Marlins did lose to Port Perry, but overall body of work points to Palmerston so we have them now at the #2 spot. Port Perry now sits at #3, rounding out the Top-5 – we have Springfield, and South Ottawa (medal winners this weekend in Quebec)
Novice Top-10 (no longer the top-20 as we feel (as someone did point out) it’s too muddy in the middle). No real change but we have acknowledged Vaughan’s 05 team win this past weekend at the PanJam.
