U19 Tier 1
No change to the leaders at U19 Tier 1. We have moved UTM Revolution up one spot, by virtue of their H2H win vs Milton this past weekend at the Barrie Bash. Midget Tier 1 tournament season is now over in Ontario… there are literally no other tournaments for strictly Tier 1… isn’t that a shame? How can the softball season (at least in terms of weekend events in Ontario) be over by June 11? Summer doesn’t officially start for another 10-days
U19 Tier 2
Some movement in this age category following the Bash results. This coming weekend there is a T2 event in Cambridge. We have Kitchener up 1 spot, same with Springfield, these are due to Vaughan taking a step back this weekend (understood it was at T1, but it wasn’t a top-level T1 event). Tavistock is up to the first 5 now by virtue of their win this weekend at the Bash.
U16 Tier 1
Last week on this blog we predicted gold for the Vikings at the U19 Bash, and they delivered going a perfect 6-0-0. We will keep them in the top-spot but there is some debate starting to surface as to whether some of the U16 events (depending on schedule) could offer tougher opponents game in and game out. Consistency there have been 6+ really tough outs each week at the U16 events including last weekend, where that may not have been the case at the U19. Regardless Vikings are #1, Revolution by virtue of their 2nd gold in two weeks in Ontario, now sits #2, Wildcats are #3, Ghosts Gold #4, and the Tigers (the Sunday version) are #5.
U16 Tier 2
Absolutely loved the performance of the Oakville Angels this weekend, playing in the T1 division at the Bash. The team arguably had the toughest schedule possible and managed to still get the bronze medal on the “A” side when the dust settled. The team has the pitching to compete at the T1 level, that was a definite, the offense did however struggle in some games. All in all, a great result and no reason to doubt their #1 spot on this list. We’ve jumped London up a couple spots this week, as well as South Ottawa based on their medal win this weekend.
As we head into the 29-team UTM Big Show this weekend, we will keep Brampton Gold in the #1 spot, Kitchener Black off a solid weekend in the Detroit area now sits back at #2. Toronto Lady Mets are the #3, and then Oakville 04 at #4, Waterloo Gold at #5. With so many teams at this age level, and as of right now all of them playing in the same events, once you get past the first wave – any team can truly be special any weekend. Good luck to all the Novice teams coming to the Show this weekend in Stratford.
