Oakville finished the Brampton Blast/Showcase as the Top-Dog among a large field of Midget 1 teams this past weekend in Brampton. The Angels defeated the Waterloo Ghosts by a score of 4-1 in the deciding game, erasing an earlier defeat to the same team in the round-robin portion of the tournament. Oakville qualified for one of the final four seeds, with a pool play record of 4-1-1, which matched them up against the Guelph Gators in the semi-final. The Angels defeated Guelph 13-6 in the semi-final Sunday, which positioned them for the re-match vs Waterloo (who defeated Brampton Blazers (M)) to reach the final.
In the gold medal final, Oakville got two hits from Kelly Hubbs, and three RBI's from Lauren Beattie to lead the offense... Madelyn Hickingbottom pitched the complete game 7.0 innings, allowing 5-hits, and one earned run. She forced the Ghosts to put the ball in play, as only two Ghost outs were recorded via the strike-out. Strong defense helped secure the win for the Angels.
